Do you have advice on vacuuming a carpet?
What can I do to remove a stain in my carpet?
Is it better to replace or repair a carpet?
The most important thing you can do in caring for your carpet is vacuuming thoroughly and frequently, especially in high-traffic areas. Walking on soiled carpet works soil particles deep into the pile where they not only damage the fibers but are far more difficult to remove.
Frequent vacuuming removes many of these particles before this happens. Always use a good vacuum cleaner. The less expensive models pick up only surface dirt and do little to prolong the life or beauty of your carpet.
Queen's Carpet Care recommends that you have your carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year to remove the deep down dirt, oils and stains that are built up over time. However, if there has been a good deal of traffic they should be cleaned more often. By following these steps your carpet will look better and last longer.
When something is spilled on your carpet, removal results are best when treatment is immediate, before the stain can set. It is best not to spray household cleaning products on your carpet, and sponging with water will dilute stains, but may spread them further.
Instead, Queen's Carpet Care suggests wetting a white cloth, getting it as hot as you can. Apply it to the stain, and cover with a second hot, wet cloth. Allow them to sit for awhile. When you remove them, If the stain is gone, allow to dry and then gently brush to restore the pile.
If the stain is not gone, repeat the process. Most stains will come out if treated right away, but if allowed to remain may become permanent.
It is important to look at the cost difference between repairing or replacing your carpeting. You typically spend 61-95% less by repairing your carpet instead of installing new carpet.
The repair may be something minor that we can perform during a regular carpet cleaning appointment. An example of this may be the resetting of the carpet on the stairs so that it is firmly attached and not causing a hazard or a liability problem. Another may be the seams, transitions and tension. Unfortunately, many repairs are due to improper installation, and a simple walk through can catch these problems easily.
If the repair is significant or involves stretching or a bonded inseam (patch), the work will be done properly and in accordance with your desires after discussing it with you.
